Artist Bio
“Art is a kind of innate drive that seizes a human being and makes him its instrument. The artist is not a person endowed with free will who seeks his own ends but one who allows art to realize its purpose through him.” - Carl Jung
“Magic is the art of causing changes in consciousness to occur in accordance with the will.” - Dion Fortune

Katherine R. Devereux is a professional artist, writer, and designer whose roots dig deep into the rich soil of bayou Texar, amidst the whispering pines of Northwest Florida. Raised in a home where scientific inquiry and artistic exploration coexisted, Devereux's upbringing instilled in her a profound appreciation for both the analytical and the imaginative aspects of life.
Drawing inspiration from her diverse academic background, which includes a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy & Religious Studies from the University of West Florida (UWF) and a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in the Business of Art & Design Entrepreneurship from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Devereux's artistic journey is a blend of intellectual curiosity and creative expression. Her scholarly pursuits include peer-reviewed works such as "The Witching Body: Ontology and Physicality of the Witch" in Open Philosophy, published by De Gruyter.
Katherine R. Devereux explores the body as both a site of experience and a vessel for understanding. Her work draws from phenomenology, ontology, and esoteric traditions, questioning how perception shapes identity and how the body holds knowledge.
In her exploration of the body, Devereux seeks to unravel its mysteries, amplifying its innate ways of knowing and revealing the profound interconnectedness between internal and external worlds. Through her art, she invites viewers to contemplate the sensual uncanniness of existence, pushing the boundaries of embodiment and challenging perceptions of “self” and “other.”
Her current charcoal and graphite series captures the trance-like state of creation, where rhythm and repetition dissolve the self into process. This work, approached as both exploration and discipline, is rooted in ritual and spirituality. By stripping the medium down to line, shade, and texture, Devereux creates a meditative space where drawing becomes a devotional act—revealing the subtle, shifting nuances of presence and transformation.
Through this practice, she invites the viewer into a similar space of contemplation, where looking becomes an act of engagement—an intimate encounter with the unspoken truths embedded in the process of making.
