JUPITER AND FOMALHAUT AT SEA 23”x30” Charcoal and Graphite on Paper with Gum Arabic 2024,

Jupiter and Fomalhaut at Sea is drawn from Arabic significations of Jupiter, as outlined in the ghayat al hakim, or Picatrix, and a literal rendering of the fixed star Fomalhaut as a largemouth bass fish. The columns and steps are composed to elicit the sensation of stepping into a temple, inhaling incense and sliding into a trance — where reality becomes disjointed, we experience the egolessness of being “in-flow”, and the line between creative practice and ritual is erased.
