TAKE ME HOME TO BAYOU TEXAR 23”x30” Charcoal and Graphite on Paper with Gum Arabic 2024,
Take Me Home to Bayou Texar continues the Fomalhaut series, where ancient astrological symbols and rituals serve as metaphors for the creative process. In this piece, blue whales—among the largest creatures on Earth—carry their rider into the depths of the bayou, symbolizing the vastness of space and the generative power of creation as Fomalhaut rises in the Southern sky.
The concept of "home" here holds dual significance: it reflects both the feeling of displacement in a new environment, the struggle to assimilate and redefine one’s identity, and a return to the primal seat of creation—expressed through the simplicity of line, form, and texture.
Here too, the columns and steps are designed to evoke the sensation of entering a sacred space, where the air is thick with incense and the mind slips into a trance. In this space, the boundaries between reality and creativity blur, allowing for a deeper connection where the flow of the creative process transcends the self, erasing the line between ritual and art.
